The bachelor's degree programme in nursing
Start qualifying today for challenging and responsible roles in nursing and position yourself strategically in the healthcare labour market for the future. Due to demographic change, nursing has become more diverse and demanding; it is considered one of the most important future-oriented professions with good and varied career opportunities.
From the winter semester 2024/25, the degree programme will be offered as a dual and integrated training programme. In seven semesters, you can earn a bachelor's degree and become a registered nurse.
For more than 10 years, the generalist nursing degree programme has combined solidary action and nursing expertise with a high level of scientific and technical orientation.
The aim of the bachelor's degree programme in Nursing is to impart skills for evidence-based, i.e. scientifically sound, work in clinical and non-clinical fields of nursing practice. In addition to body-related care, this includes extensive communication skills. The training, which is partly interprofessional, takes place in a mix of theory, training in skills labs and in professional practice. You will set your own focus areas in acute inpatient nursing, outpatient acute and long-term care, and inpatient long-term care.
There is an alternation between theoretical and practical study phases. This modular structure of the teaching and learning content promotes, among other things, the training of reflective skills. This is a relevant factor for making the right decisions in your later professional life.
The course of study includes 2300 hours of practical training with our renowned cooperation partners, who support their practical training at university level. In the Training and Transfer learning area (in the skills labs), you will receive intensive preparation for the requirements of the health care system in curricularly anchored practice groups and supplementary voluntary offers.
You will earn your bachelor's degree in 7 semesters, including admission to the profession. The German Council of Science and Humanities has been calling for the academisation of nursing since 2012. It cites increasing complexity, a changing division of labour and the increasing importance of interprofessional collaboration as reasons for this.

Why should I study Nursing at the Health Campus?
- Because I want to gain knowledge of Nursing Science and discuss the latest studies.
- Because here I can simulate real-life work situations in the skills lab and thus acquire skills for my day-to-day work in a protected environment.
- Because here I learn to base my nursing practice on scientific findings and to competently accompany people in their care process.
- Because it enables me to critically examine the available care options in terms of their evidence base and to initiate changes.
- Because I want to develop concepts, make decisions and integrate scientific findings into my daily work.
- Because I want to help improve the increasingly complex provision of care.
- Because the degree programme offers a particularly close integration of theory and practice.
- Because the degree offers me optimal opportunities in the health care labour market.
- Because the degree programme offers excellent opportunities for further qualification, e.g. in master's programmes.
Study content
They learn to implement and justify their practical nursing care on the basis of current scientific discussions.
The 23 modules of the degree programme are divided into the areas listed in the study plan, and five practical modules are completed.
As dual students with a training contract, you will get to know the practical nursing work in the residential areas of nursing homes, on hospital wards and in outpatient care with the cooperation partners of the nursing degree programme. You will be supervised by practice instructors who are familiar with the nursing curriculum and the training concept. You will get to know the following areas, among others:
- Surgical, internal medicine, neurological, oncological care areas
- Paediatric and adolescent medicine
- Obstetrics and newborns / gynaecology
- Gerontological-geriatric nursing
- Palliative care (including hospice)
- Psychiatric nursing
- If necessary, intensive care
You may also be able to experience particularly sensitive areas and develop your skills there.
During the practical study phases (practical modules), cooperation with other health care professions is essential. Therefore, interdisciplinary exchange in teaching is encouraged throughout the course.
A practical semester takes place in the fifth semester. If necessary, an internship abroad can be carried out for eight weeks. An internship through our partner universities can be planned in collaboration with the International Office.
Special features of the nursing degree programme
Upon completion of your studies, you will receive the internationally recognised academic degree Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) with a licence to practice as a B.Sc. nurse.
This degree enables you, as an alumnus/alumna, to enter directly into the diverse job opportunities in the field of nursing, but at the same time offers you the opportunity to further your education in a subject-specific manner via master's programmes, e.g. while also working (including clinical or pedagogical master's degrees).

The formal requirements for the course are clearly summarised for you. Please click below (or here) on ‘Formal requirements at a glance’ (in German).
The degree programme recommends that you find out about the basic conditions in the professional field (e.g. shift and weekend work, working conditions, etc.). A practical training placement with a cooperation partner is a good opportunity to get to know the professional field and our partners. During the first week of the programme, you should be able to decide on at least the first practical assignment.
